Teachers of the Visually Impaired
A Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI) is a licensed special education teacher who has received certification and specialized training in meeting the educational needs of students who are blind or have visual impairments ages birth through 21. This is an instructional position, as opposed to a related service or vision therapy. TVI’s do not provide any type of vision therapy and instead work with students, teachers, and administration to provide eligible students with the instructional materials, adaptations, modifications, and other supports that students need. Please feel free to make contact with us when there is a noticeable concern regarding the functional vision of a student according to Nebraska Rule 51. Reach out anytime for assistance with interventions ideas before vision referrals.
