About Us

In partnership with the Nebraska Department of Education, ESU 13 manages a number of grants in support of the Western Region of the state.

The NeMTSS Regional Lead is part of the statewide initiative to build equity across the state of Nebraska. The regional lead helps to build and sustain MTSS practices across the state, which includes ESUs 13, 15, and 16. For more information, contact Tessa Fraass (tfraass@esu13.org).

Secondary Transition Facilitators work to support teachers, students, and families as they work through the transition from school to adult life. Facilitators plan and execute student events, teacher professional development, and family support opportunities. For more information, contact Jill Trautman (jtrautman@esu13.org).

The Nebraska Autism Spectrum Disorder Network is a statewide plan for providing support to schools, districts, and parents of children with ASD. The Western Region ASD Network Coordinator and Behavior Specialist work together to assist schools to develop knowledge and expertise in Autism so that students are provided appropriate services that meet their needs. For more information, contact Megan Lantis (mlantis@esu13.org).

The Journey to Inclusion grant supports districts in an ongoing review of their special education programs utilizing the Improving Learning for Children with Disablilites (ILCD) process. The Department of Education recognizes inclusive education as an important framework to implement evidence-based practices. To that end, this grant focuses on advancing Nebraska's Journey to Inclusion through continuous improvement and the implementation of Targeted Improvement Plans. For more information, contact Jessica Broderick (jbroderick@esu13.org).

ESU 13 holds grants in support of Planning Region Team 13 and Planning Team 14. PRT's are organized groups of parents, advocates, and representatives from school districts, agencies, educational service units, Head Start, and other relevant agencies or person responsible for assisting in the planning and implementation of the Early Intervention Act in each community. For more information, contact Jessica Broderick (jbroderick@esu13.org).
