K   Trip Through Time: Legacy of the Plains Museum April 17-18 2018 All ESU #13 Schools are eligible to attend!  
       Visit museum stations and meet volunteers who share activities involving Tools, Toys and Tales of the past. Expand your vocabulary!  
1 3 R's: Reducing, Reusing, Recycling   May 2,3,4, 2018  
All ESU #13 Schools are eligible to attend!
 
  Visit the Gering City Baling Station and Landfill. Students learn why they need to reduce, reuse, and recycle.  
2 Zoo Quest: Riverside Discovery Center Sept-Dec 2017 All ESU #13 Schools are eligible to attend!  
  Please call the Riverside Discovery Center @ 630-6236 to schedule your class' individual 1.5 hour visit to the Riverside Discovery Center.   
4 Historic School: Banner County Museum Begins Aug 28, 2017 Scotts Bluff, Banner, Garden, Kimball, Cheyenne, and Deuel Counties  
      Pack your lunch bucket, put on your bonnet or bibbies and ride your horse to Historic School to step back in time and experience a day of school in 1888.  
4 Historic School: Dawes County Museum April and May 2018 Dawes, Sheridan, and Box Butte Counties  
         Pack your lunch bucket, put on your bonnet or bibbies and ride your horse to Alpha Historic School to step back in time and experience a day of school in 1888.  
4 Tools and Technology Through Time Sept. 6-7, 2017  
All ESU #13 Schools are eligible to attend!
 
         Visit stations with historic agricultural tools while you learn all about simple machines. Legacy of the Plains Museum co-sponsors this event.  
5 Water Education Day:Trails West YMCA Camp October 10-11,  2017 All ESU #13 Schools are eligible to attend!  
        These learning stations explore the importance of water, its uses, and properties--a valuable resource to our region.  
6 Branch Out: Wild Cat Hills Nature Center Sept.  20, 21, 2017 All ESU #13 Schools are eligible to attend!  
        Trees are precious to Nebraskans--these sessions explore the benefits and parts of trees, biological aspects, and science career opportunities.  
6 Let's Rock: Scotts Bluff National Monument cancelled due to construction All ESU #13 Schools are eligible to attend!  
        Explore earth science by seeing how our region was formed geologically.  
3-12 Environ-Art: brought to your classroom Jan & Feb 2018 All ESU #13 Schools are eligible to attend!  
        An artist and a naturalist will visit your classroom and show you how scientists and artists use both research and observation to record their world.  Activities prepare students to also be able to enter the Junior Duck Stamp Contest and come to a Saturday Art Symposium for youth as well as career awareness.  
6-12 NJAS-Regional Science Fair  March 6, 2018 All ESU #13 Schools are eligible to attend!  
K-8 Geography Day-National Geographic Giant Map October All ESU #13 Schools are eligible to attend!  
  Schedule a time to bring your students to explore a giant map in Alliance, Scottsbluff or Sidney.  
K-12 Sensory Safari: Riverside Discovery Center September 14,  2017 For students with disabilities. $3.50 per person with tax exempt evidence.  
      Join us for a day of feeling, smelling, hearing, and experience science and nature at stations throughout the zoo.  
K-12 Bird Banding Station Field Trip Aug. 28-Oct. 13 All ESU #13 Schools are eligible to attend!  
  Schedule field trips to Wildcat Hills Nature Center or Chadron State Park by calling Amber Schiltz at 308-783-1019.  
6,7,8 Outdoor Discovery YMCA/Game and Parks                  May 1,2, 2018            All ESU #13 Schools are eligible to attend!

Branch Out

This event is an outdoor science adventure for area 6th graders. 

Science standards that will be supported during this field trip are many including

  • structure and function of living (plant) systems
  • how plants and animals respond to environmental conditions
  • positive and negative effects of natural and human activity on an ecosystem
  • roles of producers, consumers, and decomposers in an ecosystem
  • life cycles of living things
  • plant functions to meet basic needs

 At the end of the morning or afternoon students should be able to

  • identify at least two steps in planting a tree
  • describe the important of a SNAG tree
  • identify two tree products and their benefits
  • identify some of the dangers of forest firefighting
  • understand why team work is so important
  • identify at least three different types of trees and their importance

A day just for students with disabilities! Join us for a day of feeling, smelling, hearing, and experiencing science and nature!

Tools and Technology Through Time 

Fourth grade students from our will be attending “Tools and Technology through Time” at the Legacy of the Plains Museum in Gering. They are introduced to many forms of farm equipment from the past. Activities may include: potato cutting and planting, blacksmithing, sweep-arm grinding, baling, block and tackle, steam engine tractor, dressing a horse, and harvesting.

 

Trip Through Time

Kindergartners will experience hands-on history! Step into homes of the past and compare them to the present, shell and grind corn, dive into a real crank-operated washing machine, and much more!

Water Education Day

This is an activity geared toward 5th graders. It is a day spent learning about our greatest natural resources--water.
