Program Accomplishments:

¨      One member of the department is a district representative to the Nebraska Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

¨      All SLPs from ESU #13 attended the Nebraska Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NSLHA) conference in September 2007, during which they received specialized training in treating fluency disorders, articulation disorders, phonology disorders, Childhood Apraxia, and augmentative and alternative communication.   All ESU #13 SLPs will attend the NSLHA conference in October 2008.

¨      One ESU #13 SLP presented at the 2007 NSLHA conference.  Her presentation was titled Forego Tradition and Find Success in the Student’s World.

¨      ESU #13 SLPs participated in the Child Find screenings held at Monument Mall.  This is now an annual event

¨      ESU #13 SLPs conducted monthly professional development meetings via the Distance Learning system.

¨      ESU #13 SLPs participate in the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s (ASHA) National Outcomes Measurement System (NOMS).

¨      ESU #13 SLPs were involved in the re-establishment of the Western-Nebraska Speech-Language-Hearing Association (WNSLHA).  WNSLHA had been defunct for several years before being re-organized in 2007.  WNSLHA now includes several area SLPs and Deaf Educators that meet 6 times per year on Saturdays for professional development.

Progress toward annual goal

¨      100% of respondents rated ESU #13 speech-language services as a 3 or 4 on the ESU #13 district satisfaction survey 2006-2007.

¨      NOMS data reveals that ESU #13 SLPs increased the percentage of students improving one or more Functional Communication Measures in the areas of Fluency, Intelligibility, Speech Sound Production, and Spoken Language Comprehension.

¨      76% of teachers who filled out the NOMS teacher survey agreed or strongly agreed that the students served by ESU #13 SLPs showed more effective communication after receiving services.  This is above the national average of 69%.
