ESU#13
provides many programs and delivers services
across 15,000 square miles in the panhandle of
Nebraska. Complex systems like this learn that
interconnectedness and working together to
achieve student learning is needed to fulfill
our mission. In 2005-2006, ESU #13 worked with
Dr. Jean Ann Petz to study the PDSA
(Plan-Do-Study-Act) process as a way of managing
change and developing consistent methods to
consider needed changes, to find "root causes",
to test proposed solutions to problems,
processes and systems and to find ways to ensure
that improved processes are utilized throughout
the system. The programs and services provided
at ESU #13 are currently collecting data,
updating profiles and trial testing some of the
quality tools used in this process.
ESU#13 is indebted to Pekin Public Schools in
Illinois for their information and support of
PDSA and Quality Tools. Their website
provides in-depth
examples and directions, including
examples of student work using these tools in
the classroom.
