A Post-Secondary Transition Experience Provided in Partnership With: Educational Service Unit#13 Western Nebraska Community College Local Area Schools
Many, if not most, students exiting the public school system want to go to college. For many years, students with mild learning disabilities have been included in college and campus life. However, college is seldom an option for students with more significant challenges. Historically, students with significant disabilities have received transitions services in a public high school setting until they are 21 years old. Although this is an appropriate educational setting for students ages 14 to 18, it may not be the best or most motivating for students 18 to 21. LifeLink-Nebraska is responding to these concerns by providing learning opportunities at Western Nebraska Community College and Community settings. This allows for and supports education with age-appropriate peers in an inclusive setting, increasing student access to new environments and activities, in addition to collaboration and planning with diverse partners.
Our MissionLifeLink-Nebraska, in partnership with Western Nebraska Community College, school districts, families, and community, will provide unique learning opportunities to students with disabilities, ages 18 to 21, resulting in empowered, productive community members.
